Introduction
In this blog post, I will start the new blog series called “Christian Dating Advice”.
This series will run once every month and is aimed to give Christians, just as myself honest, straight-forward, real-life examples of what it means to date as a Christian in a world that is more and more turning away from religion into a more self-centred humanistic, individualist approach.
I will write about what it means to date the Christian way, with the Bible in one hand and the other hand free for a man or a woman to share your life with.

First Of All: Does God Want Us To Date?
Since you, like me are a Christian the first and foremost important question to ask is: Does God want us to date?
The most correct, honest answer that I can give you is: Yes and no. I know that this might not have been the answer you were hoping to find but let me explain below what I mean.
Here Are Some Yeses:
* Yes, because God actually says so!
God wants you to date since He himself gives examples of courtships throughout the only written source that we fully can rely on as His Words: The Bible. I will only give you one example:
The patriarch Jacob were actually “coached” by his mother Rebecca to pay a visit to his uncle Laban and work for him.
Now, as we all know he had to work for 7 years and were tricked by his uncle to marry the elderly Leah at first before he after an additional 7 years of work were finally allowed to marry his beloved Rachel (Read especially Gen 29:18 where it’s clearly stated that Jacob loved Rachel for no apparent reason!). That is true love! He had to work for 14 years before he could marry the love of his love!
However, there are many other examples that I could give you since the Bible isn’t just about God’s love for us, the love (and hatred) between humans or how God constantly fights for humanity, it is also a lot about the human relationships.
*Yes, because God wants us to find love.
Since God love us and God is love, according to the Gospel as well as the Letters of John, He wants us to find love so that we might reflect His love for us in the love for that particular person that we are attracted to and also to our families, our congregations, our churches and our country.
* Yes, because that is how God made us.
“It is not good that the man should be alone.” (Gen. 2:18)
We are not made by God to be singles for our entire lives, we are made for someone else. That is how we should show our love and affection, by making our love an example for others to follow.
Here Are Some No’s:
* No, we should not date like everybody else.
When we read the letters, written by the apostle Paul it is clear that he constantly warns us for being like “the people of this world”. So when we are dating we should not behave like everybody else. Remember the cornerstones of dating: Humour, Respect, Honesty and Trust.
* No, dating for only sex is not an option.
Christians should not join so-called sex dating websites since these sites are promoting a lifestyle that is not a Christian lifestyle, where people just are looking for someone to spend the night with. Once again we can trust Paul who writes about people that are living like harlots are evil-doers and wrong-doers that will not share the joy of resurrection in the coming world.
* No, dating a person that does not share your values.
Christian dating is so much more than just the sharing of faith, it is also about sharing values. Remember that Jesus is our Saviour and it is our obligation to tell the world about what he has done for us! Having someone that shares that is great and strengthen you in your faith. This is also what Paul writes and what the Saviour himself demands of us!

Concluding Remarks
As we can see after having a quick look at the Bible (both the Old and the New Testament of course) God wants us to be active and date to find love.
When we have done that God demands that we will be faithful to them and that we will show His love by being faithful to our spouses.
