In this blog post, I will discuss the stereotypes we all have in dating and whether your dating is stereotypical.

A Common Stereotype For Men
The Blond Woman Is A Stereotype That Many Men Are Looking For

It is a continuation of the popular post published in late 2015, and those of my readers who want to read the original article are available here.

Read more below…

What Is A Stereotype?

According to Wikipedia, a stereotype is a firm or solid impression of a specific individual or a group of individuals if we look at the original meaning of the two Greek words, stereos and typos.

When it comes to dating, I will define it as “an individual’s perception or expectation of behavior, use of language, interests, and character of another individual based upon cultural, religious, gender, origin, political affiliation or other biases that the former person might have against the latter one.”

Let’s be honest: We all have them regardless of whether we are aware of them.

They might become a problem for you if you are dating persons from a different culture or subculture than your own if you are not aware.

All societies have them too, and we pick them up as we grow up, even if we don’t want to.

As long as you are aware of them, it is okay, but most of the time, you are unaware of them until reality kicks in, and you need to confront them.

Some people will fit the stereotype, no doubt about it.

However, sometimes you will be positively or negatively surprised and discover that the stereotype you think of is false. I always love when I am proven wrong by my biased opinion.

The Truth: Nobody Is Biased When You Are Born

Nobody is born a racist or biased, for that matter.

We learn biases from the surrounding society, especially people from different cultures, religions, and areas of the same country. Isn’t it strange?

I have personally had the privilege of growing up in a multi-ethnic community that helped me realize that when you take away things like culture, language, heritage, and religious belief, we are all human beings who have the same fears and hopes for those who we care about.

Let’s be honest here.

Regional and local stereotypes exist of people within the same country, region, or another city, part of the city, etc. You can probably think of a few right now.

The list and definition are complete but should be viewed as examples of different prejudices we all have.

All of them are based on our biases and prejudices, and they might hurt you in the long run, especially when finding someone to love.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman.

What do you think of the men and women in these pictures? Take a moment and think about how the answers might reflect your biases.

Some Examples Of Stereotypes

As you see above, one of the couples is interracial, while the other is not, and I deliberately wanted to show you that love has no prejudice. In some societies, these couples might not be accepted, while in others, they most certainly would.

I always say: “Love has no color of skin, no culture, no religion. It does not know any borders set by man. The heart has its ways, and only God knows it.”

That is how I look at it, anyway.

I have encountered a bias because young people don’t work as hard as older ones. It’s also not true, of course. Young people might work differently and smarter but older people have more experience.

Are Your Type The Stereotype?

You might agree with me on some of the things, completely disagree with me, or be in full agreement with me on the things I have shared in this article.

It doesn’t matter.

We have certain types because we think they are what we are looking for.

Most of the time, however, we are dead wrong, and I am living proof of it since I was looking for one kind of woman, but the one I found to be my soulmate was utterly different than I expected her to be.

Both men and women become “victims” of their ideas now and then.

The best advice I can share with you is that you need to stop limiting yourself to dating one “type” of person and start to look for the qualities you want in a partner.

Would you mind leaving a comment and sharing your opinions on what I have shared below?

To your success,
Rickard
