There Are Scam Artists on Dating Sites

Dating scams are, unfortunately, not a thing of the past.

Since more people than ever are going online, so will the criminals. Do you know that Facebook now has over 2 billion users worldwide?

If Facebook were a country, it would be the world’s largest nation!

Since the Internet is a worldwide phenomenon, it is easier than ever for criminals today to make a local “operation” global with just a few clicks of a button.

  1. Love scams are one of the oldest tricks in the scammer’s manual.
  2. These criminals are evil people and prey on innocent people without feeling any remorse or regret whatsoever.
  3. They do it for money and think that being poor is an excuse! There are different reasons why they do it, but you have to realize three things:

There are two things all scammers have in common, whether they send you a physical mail, email, or contact you on a dating website.

I will discuss them briefly below.

One of the most common things most scam love letters shares are that they use words that trigger positive emotions in the recipient (i.e., the victim of the scam)—more about this in a little while.

A version of scam love letters is an online dating scam.

A popular approach by these criminals that operates in online dating is asking their victims for money.

Some will ask you up-front, while others are a bit more “refined” and will wait for a while to allow feelings to evolve before they try to scam you for money.

There is a particular love scam format. Everything begins with a heart-warming story full of emotional words, which I refer to as trigger words.

Dating scam stories are full of these trigger words.

Many of them are using words like “God,” “God Fearing,” “hardworking,” “honest,” “good health,” “miles of emptiness between us,” and “true love and friendship,” to mention a few of them.

Many of them do live in poor conditions. However, this is not an excuse for stealing other people’s money, in my opinion.

There is no protection against them except for education and trusting your instinct.

Luckily for you, I will give you some education for free, but I highly recommend that you do your research. There is no such thing as being too educated about this matter.

I will now discuss their locations and other things they have in common.

Generally speaking, these scammers either live or work for a US Based company in foreign countries, especially in Africa or Asia.

It also doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman. These scammers are everywhere and target everyone they think they can scam—no matter gender or sexual orientation. I just needed to state this fact.

The scammers are looking for easy money and don’t care if they break people financially or emotionallyThey are ruthless!

I want to go over three dating scam formats with you so you can get even more examples:

Female Dating Scam Format

When I reviewed the Russian Brides product in April 2017, I discussed briefly how  Eastern European scammers are trying to lure wealthy men into sending them money.

If you have met a woman from Russia or Eastern Europe who wants help and education, I recommend reading this website carefully.*

Most female dating scams follow this format:

  • The scammer contacts you, and you start to text forth and back for a while
  • You exchange photos and free email addresses.
  • She explains her “love” for you and that she can’t wait to meet you in real life.
  • Then she starts asking for money. Just a minor fee for something. She might have to visit a parent or go to the capital of her native country to fix a visa to come and see you.
  • Of course, something happens that requires you to pay her more money through a wire transfer.
  • It can be that the parent, the scammer, or another relative is struck with a severe illness that requires advanced medical treatment in a hospital or that the embassy requests some additional fees that you need to pay.
  • The scam can continue or stop, but eventually, it will end once the scammer has scammed you for several thousand dollars (or Euros or Pounds) or you stop answering her messages.

Nigerian Dating Scam Format

Nigeria is infamous for being the home of several online dating scammers. I am writing here similar to all love scams involving persons from developing countries, especially in Africa.

They are criminals who have done this many times before and generally target people above 40, especially if they are elderly, widowers, or disabled.

Some of the more “refined” scammers will even send you gifts.

To make sure that they can trick you into thinking that they are “genuine” and “upfront” with their undying, everlasting love for you.

Yes, I did use trigger words here to give you a sense of how they operate to lure their victims into sending them money because of something “tragic” that happened.

Many Nigerian dating scams follow the same pattern as the female dating scam I described above.

how scammers operate
Unfortunately, scammers aren’t limiting themselves to dating websites but are on dating apps too.

New Dating Scam Format

A new format of dating scams is the “goods stuck in customs”-scam.

The scammer claims to have found something of great value, like gold or jewels and will send it to you (the victim) in a box.

Unfortunately, the “goods” get stuck in country x and then in the customs of countries y and z too.

The scammer will ask you to pay the customs fee each time this happens.

You will lose money by doing this multiple times because nothing will come to you or something will come to you, but it isn’t beneficial!

If you want to educate yourself about love scam stories and love scam letters which I highly recommend since this is how these criminals operate, I suggest that you start by reading websites like ScamWarners.com and others like them.
