Writing an Online Dating Profile

Writing an online dating profile can be quite challenging.

A lot of questions may pop up in your head like: What should I write? What should I not write? What if I intimidate other singles and make them run the other way?

If these questions had emerged when you were trying to write your dating profile, it might stop you in your tracks to write one.

You might start to procrastinate, think that you will do it better tomorrow and start second-guessing yourself buy as we all know, that’s what really stops you from becoming an online dating success story yourself.

Here are some examples of singles who have overcome this and found love.

Have you ever tried online dating and failed?

If you ever have experienced getting stuck or failed on a dating website, when you start to write your dating profile, you should continue to read this entire article to the end.

You owe it to yourself!

There is one part that makes up 2/3 of your dating profile that I won’t discuss in this article at all. This is what makes up 67% of the first impression of your dating profile.

After all, your dating profile text is one of the most important assets in your entire online dating experience, since it will make up 1/3 of the so important first impression that other singles will get when they first visit your profile.

In many aspects, when someone watches your dating profile for the very first time, it is like a first date.

What Is the Real Purpose of a Dating Profile Text?

It is to create an interest in you and intrigue other singles, and there are 4 simple ways to do this and to get “unstuck”.

Just remember to write a profile that is unique to you, really shows your personality and creates enough interest to make other singles want to contact you.

It would help if you always remembered to have a positive attitude and to be as true to yourself as possible.

Try to be as genuine and as close as possible to who you are in real life.

Dating Profile Tips #1: Write Funny Dating Profile Text

If you decide to write a funny dating profile, you have to make it as funny as possible. Make sure that your sense of humour is clearly shown so that other singles can get to know that you’re a goofy guy or gal.

Changing fonts, having a different colour of words is one way to be funny.

Another way is to share a video where you do or say something funny. You can also tell a joke, even in your dating profile text, which is a third way to be funny.

Remember: Everybody loves a good laugh now and then.

My advice is to steer away from jokes that might be offensive to groups or individuals. Hate isn’t fun!

Dating Profile Tips #2: Write to Create Intrigue

If you have read this blog in 2017, you might remember that I introduced the HIT-method where the “I” in this acronym stands for intrigue or interest.

That’s exactly what you want to do in a dating profile too.

You can use any of the other dating tips that I share with you in this article to accomplish this or you can do it by asking questions as I did at the beginning of this article.

Your goal with a dating profile is always to make this person get to know you a bit but not too well since you want the person to contact you to learn more.

I would suggest that you even write this on your dating profile.

You can also accomplish creating intrigue by addressing something you find puzzling about men or women.

Dating Profile Tips #3: Write About Something You Love

Write about your passions. Do you love cats or dogs? Do you love bettas or hamsters? Are you a hardcore jock, a gal (or guy) who loves baking or other stuff?

Which are your favourite Bible verses? Which Bible do you prefer; NIV, ESV, KJV or NKJV?

Just make sure that you allow some personality in your dating profile text. A certain way to do it is to write about your hobbies, interests and other things you might be passionate about.

Dating Profile Tips #4: Expect the Unexpected

If you want to stand out from other profiles, you should prepare to expect the unexpected. What do I really mean? There might be an experience that you have experienced that really changed your life.

It can be when you became a born-again Christian or when you met Christ for the first time and realized that Jesus died for you and your sins.

It was an overwhelming feeling. God touched your heart!

If you have experienced a miraculous event or if you have felt God’s hand touch you and because of this divine intervention, it allowed your life to take a different route than the way it was heading before.

Remember how Moses, David, Elijah, Peter, and Paul all became affected by God’s intervention in their lives:

  • Moses went from the palaces of Egypt to lead God’s people through the desert. Instead of ruling a people, he served his own people and led them through hardships. He had to kill a man first before God revealed his true identity and purpose.
  • David went from watching a herd of sheep in Bethlehem to become a shepherd and king for the entire nation of Israel. He slew a giant.
  • Elijah went from living in a desert and be fed by the crows to defend the faith of Israel through prayer and wonder to succumb to the evil prophets on Mount Carmel. He defended the faith of Israel and was able to assist king Yehu in his overthrowing of a religiously corrupt regime.
  • Peter went from denying Christ, not once but thrice, to become the most influential apostle of the twelve that Christ himself chosen. He was murdered for that faith yet he didn’t succumb to denial in his hour of trial but was given the grace to be glorified as a saint of the Church.
  • Paul went from persecuting Christians to meet the risen Christ in a dream and become a Christian and the most influential apostle of all apostles, not by faith but through the grace of Christ Jesus. He too died and was glorified as a saint of the Church.

Even if you have experienced something that wasn’t so dramatic, you probably have something truly life-changing or just plainly unexpected.

Do You Want Online Dating Examples?

Well, luckily for you, I have given you examples for both men and women in the past on this blog. I won’t give you new ones right now.

You can find the best online dating tips for men in this article.

Online dating profile examples for females are also available.

I have already given you tips on what you should write in a dating profile, so the next question that I asked at the beginning of this article was:

What Should I Not Write on My Dating Profile?

It would help if you avoided the following things:

Your full and real name. If you need to use your real name, use your first name and don’t use your last name. Most dating sites will allow you to use a profile name or an account name to protect your privacy.

Sharing too much information about yourself like your address, phone number, and links to all your social media accounts.

Never share credit card information in a dating profile or with someone you meet online (I will discuss this in further detail in my next article that will be published this Saturday).

Things you don’t like. Try to keep a positive attitude. Remember: You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Details about your previous dates. Details are great but too many details, especially intimate ones or pure “trash talk” will make most singles run the other way. Those who don’t aren’t worth dating anyway if you want a serious, long-term relationship.

Everything I have shared with you in this article should be considered as general information. There is no guarantee that they will work.

But if you are following them, you will reduce the likelihood of making other singles run away from your profile.

In fact, the most common mistake most singles do is not to write anything on their dating profile.

My next article will be published on the 20th of January 2018.

It will discuss how you can reveal false dating profiles and scammers on any dating website.

Have a great week,
