How Did Saint Valentine’s Day Get Started?
Saint Valentine’s Day can trace its roots back to Saint Valentine’s celebration, a Catholic saint proclaimed by pope Gelasius in 498 AD.
According to the legend, Saint Valentine chose martyrdom over denouncing his faith since he had been accused of marrying Christian couples.
However, at least three different saints with the same name make it hard to determine which person we are referring to, but the most popular is a Christian priest who suffered martyrdom for marrying Christians.

As you can read above, it was in the beginning but has since become celebrated in non-Catholic and non-Christian countries.
Today it is celebrated throughout many parts of the world.
