Introduction

In this blog post, the entire team of Chi Rho Dating has come together to answer the question: Why do we celebrate Christmas?

The answer is of course because this is the time of the year when we celebrate the birth of the Saviour, Jesus Christ.

There will be a surprise, though…

The Saviour Is Born!

The famous hymn “Silent Night” says “The Saviour is born”.

This line is there to remind us of what the prophet Isaiah’s prophesied about; a son is born in a royal house (Is. 7:14) since the virgin that gave birth to the Saviour of humanity is, in fact, of royal lineage, she is married into the house of David, the ancient king of the united Israel!

It has been fulfilled by the first coming of Jesus, born by the Virgin Mary in a stable in the little town of Bethlehem (Hebrew: The house of bread).

Merry Christmas to every reader of this blog!

Jesus is the long awaited Messiah, of royal descent.

For this reason, the wise men (or three kings) are wrongfully assuming that Jesus is born in a palace and first arrive at king Herod’s place.

He who was a puppet king to his Roman masters while Jesus, the true Messiah only did his Father’s divine will.

There is, however, one historical fact that we cannot overlook, Jesus wasn’t born in December.

There are no Roman annals of a tax-writing in the year 1 A.D.

It probably took place between 4 – 7 years earlier or later according to biblical scholars and probably also during spring.

April or May have been suggested as the most reasonable months for the birth of Jesus.

For this reason, it’s not the real birthday of Jesus but it doesn’t matter since it doesn’t change the fact:

For God so loved the World that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life(John 3:16 ESV)

It should also be noted that Jesus in fact, is born in time just as he was born by the Father before the beginning of time as the Nicene Creed so clearly states.

In his last post before Christmas, Rickard wrote about the greatest Christmas gift ever given to humanity.

Now it is time to unwrap this gift: It is, of course, the birth of Jesus Christ, in human history, something we actually can point to a specific time era.

So, don’t feel ashamed if you only could by yourself or someone you love just one Christmas present.

Read the Holy Bible and discover that the only begotten Son of God was born for over 2,000 years ago in a stable in Bethlehem.

The bread of life is born in the house of bread!

In other words: Just as his descendant David, who was a shepherd in Bethlehem before rising to the power of king Jesus is a shepherd for his people and for all humanity.

As his descendant Boaz who took in the Moabite woman Ruth into his household so that she conceived a son, called Obed so Jesus Christ is born in Bethlehem by a virgin as prophesied by Isaiah and also Micah.

Let’s finish this article with a short prayer:

A Prayer On Christmas Day

Lord, our Father!

Thank You for sending Jesus Christ, Your only Son to us,

So that we will gain eternal life through Him.

Thank You for not condemning the world but sending a Saviour to us,

To restore our relationship with You.

O heavenly Father, we thank You for everything,

Fill us with Your love,

Fill us with Your grace,

Fill us with Your will,

in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Saviour,

Amen.
