In this blog post, we will discuss why we celebrate Pentecost.

It will also be the only posts we will write in the future,

the rest will be written by our dating coach Rickard.

what is Pentecost, Holy Spirit, acts 2, the Holy Spirit
“2 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and hit filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:2-4 ESV)

The Helper Has Arrived!

When Jesus ascended to his Father in heaven, he promised that he would send a helper to guide the disciples.

Jesus never said when and who he would send but the only thing that was clear to them were of course that one day there would be a divine helper sent to them.

They had been hiding since the resurrection of the Lord, afraid of what the authorities would do to them and the story of the Pentecost is a story of how a group of afraid men becomes fearless and brave, doing what their Master told them to do (Matthew 28:19).

God reveals His divine will in a thunderstorm (Acts 2:2) just as He did in the days of Elijah (1 Kings 18) when He revealed who really were the true God and also reveals that He allows the apostles to speak in all languages of the nations (Acts 2:3) thereby stating that God is the creator of all human languages (Genesis 11:9).

The divine helper is, of course, the Holy Spirit and not a human.

Since the apostles spoke all the languages of the World it is a statement by God: This is the birth of something new, something that will transcend all ethnicities and cultures, it is the birth of all Churches and denominations of the World today.

The dove is also used as a description of the Holy Spirit (Luke 3:22)

The Birthday Of All Churches

This is a celebration of all churches throughout the World and just as the people said back then (Acts 2:5-13) it doesn’t matter which language you speak, you only have to worship God with all your heart to realize what it’s all about: Faith and trust in God alone.

As you can see if you read the text, some people were blinded by their own wisdom and stated that the apostles were drunk! They were filled with the Holy Spirit which made them appear drunk to those that couldn’t believe that God was acting in their contemporary society.

So for that reason, they are sent on a mission, guided by the Spirit: To tell the world about the words of Easter Day that is as revolutionary and as controversial today as it were back then: “He is not here, He is risen!”

A Short Prayer On Pentecost

Blessed are You, Lord our God, Master, and Creator of the entire universe,

who sent Your Holy Spirit to this World,

so that it would become aware of and be a witness to Your greatness.

Amen.
