What Does “Be Yourself” Really Mean?

One of the best tips you can ever receive about dating and relationships is to be yourself.

After all, it is you that the person you are dating should fall in love with, and pretending to be someone else will never work in the long run.

To find love, you need to date. To date successfully, you need to be yourself. What does it mean? The answer is found below.

What does “be yourself” really mean? Is it just advice that sounds good but is nothing but “fluff,” or does it mean something?

I have often given this advice throughout this blog, so I thought I should clarify it for you.

For this reason, I have written this article.

Let’s be honest: I don’t know you, and you do not know me.

The advice I can give you in this article will only be general.

If you want specific advice, you can contact me to discuss your situation.

Now, I will discuss in more detail what it means to be yourself in dating.

Be True to Yourself Always

In one way, being yourself is being genuine and honest with oneself.

You also need to understand that it is not just about being truthful and honest to oneself that matters.

You must also be honest and truthful to the person you’re dating.

That is important in all dating, both online and offline.

To be yourself, be truthful to yourself, and be honest with yourself, you need one more “ingredient.”

You need to know and understand yourself.

This is time-consuming, but this is the essential part of it.

As I told you in a previous post, you need to love and respect yourself, and knowing yourself is of the utmost importance too.

So let me ask you: What does knowing yourself mean?

My answer is that the older we get, the more experienced we get in predicting how we, as human beings, are reacting to different situations and how they are unfolding. To my best knowledge, that is how I define knowing oneself.

[Tweet “To know yourself is to understand why and how you react in different situations in life.”]

If you have another definition, please share it with the readers of this blog by leaving a comment below.

All comments will be read before they are published.

To Be Yourself Is All About You

As I stated at the beginning of this article, I don’t know you, and you can’t tell me.

The questions you need to ask yourself are:

  • What does it mean to be me?
  • Who am I?
  • How do I want someone else to perceive me?

The best answer is to ask other people around you whom you interact with daily or weekly. You might be funny or dull, exciting or mundane—every small detail matters in dating.

If you want to change how others perceive you, you must work on that personality trait.

Say you want to be perceived as a fun person to be around. Then you need to develop specific strategies and methods to obtain this trait.

You might look at videos or websites dedicated to jokes and humor.

Along the way, you will learn that what we laugh at is based on our gender, culture, religion, and the society around us as a whole.

This insight will help you develop the skills and methods you should use to be perceived as a fun guy or gal.

This might boost your confidence, and make you more outgoing and attractive, which, in the long run, might equal going out on more dates.

My next article will be published on the 28th of October, 2017.

It will discuss how integrity matters in dating.
