You like her.
She seems interested.
So naturally, you text her.
Maybe you had a great first date and don’t want the momentum to disappear. Maybe you’ve been talking for a while, and texting has become part of your daily routine.
But then a question starts creeping into your mind:
Am I texting her too much?
Maybe she takes longer to reply than she used to. Maybe you’re starting most of the conversations. Or perhaps nothing has obviously gone wrong yet, but you’re worried that being too available could make her lose interest.
Here’s the first thing I want you to understand:
There is no magic number of texts that suddenly becomes “too much.”
Ten messages could be completely natural in one situation and far too much in another.
What matters more is why you’re texting, how she’s responding, and whether you’re both contributing to the interaction.
Let’s look at seven signs your texting may be working against you.
1. You’re Always the One Starting the Conversation
Think about your last few conversations with her.
Who started them?
If the answer is almost always you, pay attention.
That doesn’t automatically mean she isn’t interested. Some people initiate conversations more naturally than others, and you don’t need to start keeping score.
But there is an important difference between:
“I usually text first.”
and:
“If I didn’t text her, I’m not sure we’d talk at all.”
The second one tells you something about the dynamic between you.
Try giving the conversation some room occasionally.
Not as a trick.
Not because you’re supposed to wait exactly three days or follow some strange texting rule.
Just let her choose to communicate with you too.
What happens next can tell you more than counting how many messages you’ve sent.
2. You Send Another Text Because She Hasn’t Answered Yet
You send her a message.
Twenty minutes pass.
Nothing.
Then an hour.
Still nothing.
Suddenly you’re thinking about sending something else.
Maybe a meme.
Maybe another question.
Maybe:
“Did you see my last message?”
This is where you should ask yourself an important question:
Would I send this second message if she had already replied?
If the answer is no, you may not really be sending it because you have something to say.
You’re sending it because the silence is making you uncomfortable.
Double texting isn’t inherently wrong. Context matters. Sometimes you genuinely remember something you wanted to tell her.
But repeatedly sending new messages because you need a response can turn texting into a search for reassurance.
And that’s a very different dynamic.
If this is happening because her communication has recently changed, don’t immediately assume that another message will fix it. There are several possible reasons why she won’t text you, and understanding what is happening is usually more useful than simply sending another message.
3. Your Messages Are Getting Longer While Hers Are Getting Shorter
This is one of the easiest patterns to miss.
You send:
“That sounds amazing. I’ve actually wanted to go there for ages. What did you like most about it?”
She sends:
“Yeah, it was fun.”
So you try another subject.
She replies:
“Lol.”
You send something longer.
She responds with:
“Maybe.”
The problem isn’t that women have to write messages the same length as yours.
They’re not.
Look at the direction of the interaction instead.
If you’re putting in more effort to start a conversation while she contributes less, sending more probably won’t fix it.
In fact, you may be trying to compensate for declining engagement by increasing your own.
Sometimes the amount you’re texting isn’t even the real problem. It’s what you’re sending and what you’re trying to accomplish.
That’s why avoiding a few common texting mistakes that ruin attraction can matter more than simply trying to text less.
4. You Text Her Because the Silence Makes You Anxious
This one requires a little honesty with yourself.
Imagine that you haven’t heard from her all afternoon.
What happens inside your head?
Do you continue with your day?
Or do you start wondering:
“Did I say something wrong?”
“Is she losing interest?”
“Should I send something funny?”
“Maybe I should ask what she’s doing.”
“What if another guy is texting her?”
At that point, texting can stop being communication and start becoming a way of managing your own uncertainty.
You want the reply because the reply makes you feel better.
I’ve made enough mistakes in my own dating life to know how easy it is to confuse doing something with actually improving the situation.
Sometimes the better move is allowing a little space.
And if part of your problem is that you genuinely don’t know what you should text her when you do reach out, that’s something I can help you with.

You don’t need to fill every silence.
A good conversation can survive a pause.
5. You’re Trying to Keep Every Conversation Alive
Not every text conversation needs an encore.
Sometimes a conversation naturally ends.
You exchanged a few jokes.
You talked about your day.
You made plans.
Nothing else needs to be said right now.
And that’s okay.
The trouble starts when you feel responsible for keeping the conversation going.
So you introduce another subject.
Then another.
Then another.
Eventually you’re no longer talking because the two of you have something to talk about.
You’re talking because you’re afraid that stopping means losing momentum.
But attraction doesn’t require constant access to each other.
Sometimes ending a conversation while it still feels good gives both of you something far more valuable:
something to come back to later.
If you find yourself constantly searching for another subject to keep her replying, learning what to text a woman to spark interest and keep her engaged may be more useful than sending more messages.
6. You’re Texting a Lot, but You’re Not Getting Any Closer to a Date
This is one of the biggest warning signs.
You’ve exchanged hundreds of messages.
You know what she watched on Netflix last night.
You know what she ate for lunch.
You know what annoyed her at work.
You may even have inside jokes.
But every time you suggest meeting…
something happens.
She’s busy.
Maybe next week.
She’ll let you know.
Then the texting continues.
This can create an illusion of progress.
You’re communicating constantly, so it feels as though the relationship must be moving somewhere.
But texting isn’t necessarily progress.
If you met through a dating app or you’re interested in dating her, eventually the interaction needs to move beyond your phones.
And if she happily keeps texting you but repeatedly avoids meeting you, that’s a different problem altogether. I’ve broken down why she may keep texting you but not want to meet up and what that situation can actually mean.
7. The Real Problem Isn’t How Often You Text – It’s Why You’re Texting
This is the one I really want you to remember.
Two men can send the same number of messages to a woman and end up in completely different situations.
Let’s call them Ted and John.
Ted and John are fictional examples. I’m deliberately simplifying their situations to illustrate the difference.
Ted texts a woman several times throughout the day.
She asks him questions.
She sends him things she thinks he’ll find funny.
Sometimes she starts the conversation.
Sometimes he does.
If Ted disappears for a few hours because he’s busy, the conversation doesn’t collapse. She might even send him something later herself.
Now consider John.
John also sends several messages throughout the day.
But John usually starts the conversation.
When she gives him a short answer, he introduces another subject.
When she doesn’t respond, he starts wondering what he should send next.
If the conversation starts to die, John tries to revive it.
And if John stopped texting entirely, he’s not sure she would start another conversation.
On paper, Ted and John might send roughly the same number of messages.
But they’re not doing the same thing.
Ted is participating in a conversation that both people are helping to create.
John is increasingly trying to keep the interaction alive on his own.
Research on texting in romantic relationships points in a similar direction. One study found that greater similarity between partners in texting behavior, including how often each person initiated conversations, was associated with greater relationship satisfaction. In other words, the number of messages alone doesn’t tell you much. The pattern between two people matters too.
That’s why asking:
“How many texts are too many?”
can be the wrong question.
A better question might be:
“What happens when I stop texting for a while?”
Does she eventually initiate?
Does she ask questions?
Does she give you something meaningful to respond to?
Does she seem curious about you?
Does the interaction actually move forward?
Or does everything depend on you keeping it alive?
Real dating situations are obviously more complicated than Ted and John. Most people won’t fit either example perfectly.
But if you’re wondering whether you’re texting her too much, your current situation will often lean more toward one of those two dynamics.
How Much Texting Is Too Much?
There isn’t a universal answer.
Research gives us another reason to be careful with simple rules about texting frequency. In one study of 395 people, the sheer volume of texts had little association with relationship satisfaction. How texting fit into the couple’s broader communication appeared to matter more.
Someone telling you:
“Never text a woman more than twice a day.”
or:
“Always wait exactly as long as she waited before replying.”
is giving you a rule that ignores the actual relationship between two people.
Ted could send more messages than John and still have the healthier interaction.
Instead of counting messages, look for three things:
Reciprocity. Is she contributing too?
Engagement. Does she seem interested in what you’re saying, or are you constantly trying to generate another response?
Progression. Is your communication actually taking you somewhere?
If those three things are present, frequent texting isn’t automatically a problem.
If they’re absent, reducing your texting won’t magically create attraction either.
It may simply reveal something that was already happening.
Am I Texting Her Too Much After the First Date?
This is one of the easiest times to overthink texting.
You had a good date.
You like her.
You don’t want her to think you’re uninterested.
But you also don’t want to come across as too eager.
So what should you do?
Start with the simplest thing:
If you enjoyed the date, it’s okay to communicate that.
You don’t need to pretend you didn’t have a good time to appear mysterious.
What matters is what happens afterward.
If she responds enthusiastically and you keep talking naturally, that’s very different from repeatedly trying to recreate the date over your phone.
And if you’d like to see her again, texting should eventually help make that happen.
It shouldn’t replace asking her out.
If you’re struggling with that transition, I’ve also written about how to text a woman you like and ask her out.
The goal isn’t to win the texting conversation.
It’s to create another opportunity to see each other.
What If She Suddenly Starts Texting Less?
This is where a lot of men panic.
Yesterday she was replying quickly.
Today she isn’t.
That doesn’t automatically mean you’ve ruined everything.
People work.
People get tired.
People have family responsibilities.
People sometimes don’t feel like staring at their phones.
Look for patterns, not individual delays.
But if something genuinely seems to have changed – she rarely initiates anymore, her responses have become consistently shorter, or conversations that once flowed now feel forced – sending more messages is unlikely to provide the clarity you’re looking for.
Instead, take a closer look at why she may have stopped texting the way she used to.
Understanding the problem comes before trying to text your way out of it.
Maybe You’re Not Texting Too Much – You’re Texting the Wrong Things
This distinction matters.
A man can send three boring, needy, overly sexual, or directionless messages and create more problems than another man creates with twenty messages in a mutually enthusiastic conversation.
Frequency is only one variable.
Content matters.
Timing matters.
Context matters.
And most importantly, her participation matters.
If you’ve been concentrating entirely on how often you text her, it may be worth looking instead at what to text a woman to make her want you.
That’s a very different question.
And sometimes it’s the one you should have been asking all along.
What If She Texts You but Never Wants to Meet?
Then you’re probably not dealing with an “I text too much” problem anymore.
If she frequently talks to you, responds enthusiastically, and perhaps even flirts, but consistently avoids seeing you in person, pay attention to the difference between attention and intention.
Someone can enjoy talking to you without wanting a romantic relationship with you.
That’s why I wouldn’t recommend solving that situation by becoming an even better texting companion.
Instead, figure out why she keeps texting you but doesn’t want to meet up.
The answer may tell you whether it’s worth continuing.
So What Should You Text Her Instead?
If you’ve read this far, you may have noticed something.
The texting solution to too much isn’t simply:
Text less.
You could send fewer messages and still make the same mistakes.
The better goal is to make your messages have a reason to exist.
Start a conversation because you have something to share.
Ask a question because you’re genuinely interested in her answer.
Flirt because the interaction between you has become playful.
Suggest a date because you’d actually like to see her.
And sometimes…
Put the phone down and let the conversation breathe.
You don’t have to constantly remind a woman you exist to stay on her mind. In fact, I’ve written separately about how to make her think about you when you’re not around because that’s a very different skill from simply appearing in her notifications all day.
And if your biggest problem is still:
“Okay, Rickard, but what should I actually send her?”
I’ve put together something specifically for that.
FREE Report Reveals the Best 10 Texts to Send Any Woman and Get Her Out on a Date Tonight without Using Cheesy Pick-Up Lines, Useless Mind Games, or Manipulation.
Because the goal isn’t to become better at sending more texts.
It’s to become better at knowing when you actually have something worth sending.
