One of the biggest things I’ve learned about eating during my menstrual phase is that simple almost always wins.
When I’m feeling tired or dealing with cramps, the last thing I want is a recipe with twenty ingredients and an hour of preparation.
Instead, I reach for meals that are easy to make, comforting, and full of foods that leave me feeling satisfied instead of sluggish.
These are some of my favorite recipes for the menstrual phase when I want something nourishing without adding more complexity.
Why Simple Recipes Often Work Best
During your menstrual phase, your energy levels may feel different from week to week—or even from one day to the next.
That’s why I like recipes that are:
- Easy to prepare
- Made with everyday ingredients
- Flexible enough to adapt to my cravings
- Filling without feeling heavy
You don’t need gourmet meals.
Sometimes the simplest meals are exactly what your body is asking for.
1. Greek Yogurt Breakfast Bowl

Combine:
- Greek yogurt
- Fresh berries
- Chopped walnuts
- Honey
- A few pieces of dark chocolate
This is one of my favorite breakfasts because it feels like a dessert while still supporting my healthy lifestyle.
I know what you might think right now: Does dark chocolate help or hurt me? Honestly?
Sometimes I do.
Sometimes I don’t.
I’ve learned that it’s less about following strict rules and more about listening to what my body actually needs. That’s why I put together a separate article looking at both sides of the question, so you can decide what feels right for you.
2. Creamy Oatmeal with Banana
Warm oatmeal topped with sliced banana, cinnamon, walnuts, and a little dark chocolate.
Comfort food at its best.
If you spend enough time online, you might start thinking there’s some unwritten rule that eating chocolate automatically ruins a healthy lifestyle.
I don’t believe that’s always true.
Sometimes, a little chocolate can actually help you stay consistent with your healthy habits—and that may be better for your long-term weight-loss goals than constantly trying to be perfect.
3. Salmon with Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Roast sweet potatoes while baking salmon in the oven.
Serve with spinach or another leafy green for a simple dinner.
4. Vegetable Omelet
Eggs, spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes make a colorful meal that’s ready in minutes.
5. Berry Smoothie

Blend:
- Greek yogurt
- Mixed berries
- Banana
- Milk of your choice
Perfect when you don’t feel like eating a large meal.
6. Lentil Soup

A warm bowl of lentil soup can be surprisingly comforting during your menstrual phase.
Add carrots, onions, celery, and herbs for extra flavor.
7. Avocado Toast with Eggs
One of those recipes I never seem to get tired of.
Simple ingredients.
Great flavor.
Very little effort.
8. Chicken and Vegetable Rice Bowl
Cooked chicken, rice, steamed vegetables, and avocado come together to create a satisfying meal that’s easy to customize.
9. Chia Pudding with Berries
Prepare it the night before for an effortless breakfast or snack.
10. Whole-Grain Wrap with Turkey and Spinach
A quick lunch filled with lean protein and fresh vegetables.
11. Tomato and Vegetable Soup
Sometimes all I want is something warm.
A homemade tomato soup with whole-grain bread always feels comforting.
12. Fresh Fruit Plate with Cottage Cheese
When I’m craving something lighter, fresh fruit with cottage cheese is one of my favorite combinations.
My Favorite Recipe
If I had to recommend just one recipe, it would still be the Greek yogurt bowl.
It reminds me that healthy eating doesn’t have to feel restrictive.
Small choices really do add up over time.
Final Thoughts
Eating well during your menstrual phase isn’t about following strict rules.
It’s about finding meals that help you feel your best.
Some days you’ll want a warm bowl of oatmeal.
Other days you’ll crave berries, yogurt, or a smoothie.
That’s perfectly okay.
Listen to your body, experiment with different recipes, and remember that healthy eating should support your life—not make it more stressful.
