Introduction

In this blog post, I will continue my discussion on how to use social media to your advantage when dating online. In this article, I will focus on you and not on the person you are dating.

As I previously have written, you should use social media to verify that the person is real, but don’t think for a minute that your date wouldn’t do the same to you.

This is to ensure that someone is who they really claim to be.

There are also specialized companies that can help you with doing background checks that have been the topic of a quite different article published before on this blog.

So, let me now explain how you can use social media to benefit your dating.

Social Media And Online Dating

Social Media Might Be Beneficial For Your Online Dating

Social media offers a variety of new ways to meet potential dating partners.

If you are like the average Internet user today, you will probably spend a couple of hours online each day, and possibly also on various social media platforms, such as the ones mentioned below in the ‘Social Share’ paragraph.

Just as you can choose whether you like this article or not by clicking one of the buttons below, you are probably doing this and sharing your inner thoughts, and maybe chatting with your friends.

Dating has come a far way since the 1990’s and so has social media.

Today, they are both integral parts of our lives, and when we try to check up on a person, whether it’s a celebrity or an average Joe, we are always looking them up on various social media platforms.

We do this to learn more about who they are and what they do, what they like and dislike, and to discover something personal about them in the process.

I don’t do this myself, but I am aware that many people engage in this behavior and that it is even socially acceptable.

You can use the 3 simple steps of social media and in online dating as well:

  • Be nice and answer politely even if people are being rude to you.
  • Don’t overuse hashtags, smileys, or exclamation marks in the texts you publish.
  • Be positive and helpful; share your thoughts and ideas in a constructive manner (e.g., I might not be the biggest fan of huge cars, but I can’t say I dislike sitting in one).

Many social media platforms today offer a wide range of privacy settings; use them wisely so that not everything you publish will be shared with everyone unless you intend to do so willingly.

These three simple rules will help you a great deal, not just on social media platforms but also in online dating.

If you are using them, more people want to have a conversation with you, as they find positive people more likable than those who are negative.

It is, in many ways, about showing the best side of you, but quite publicly. What you shouldn’t do is write a single line saying “if you wish to know a bit more about me, please contact me at x“.

X is, of course, the social media platform of your choice. Please provide a brief introduction about yourself.

Dating Tips for Social Media and Online Dating

No matter who you are dating, chances are that he or she will be on social media as well as at least one online dating platform.

A platform can either be a dating website or a dating app.

It is very different than social media, right?

But…

Why should it be any different?

On social media, you share your interests.

So why shouldn’t you put that in your online dating profile?

That is one of the things that will make your profile stand out from others.

If you want to show someone that you are a real person, share your interests on the dating profile you prefer.

If it is a dating website, here are some tips for women, and here are some for men.

If it is a dating app, then here are some tips for both men and women.

That is a modern way of dating now.

Next blog post

The next blog post will be published on February 3rd, 2016.

It will be discussing the fact that the time has now arrived to make up your mind and decide who you want to date.

See you then,
