Introduction
In this blog post, I will continue my discussion about how you can use social media to your benefit when you are dating online. In this article, I will focus on you and not on the person you are dating.
As I previously have written, you should use social media to verify that the person is real but don’t think for a minute that your date wouldn’t do the same to you.
This is to ensure that someone is who the person really claims to be.
There are also specialized companies that can help you with doing background checks that have been the topic of a quite different article published before on this blog.
So, let me now explain how you can use social media to benefit your dating.
Social Media And Online Dating
Social media offers a variety of new ways to look for singles to date.
If you are like the average Internet user today you will probably spend a couple of hours online each day and maybe also on different social media platforms like the once I mention below in the paragraph called social share.
Just as you can choose whether you like this article or not by clicking one of the buttons below, you are probably doing this and sharing your inner thoughts and maybe chatting with your friends.
Dating has come a far way since the 1990’s and so has social media.
Today they are both integrated parts of our lives and when we are trying to check up on a person, no matter if it’s a celebrity or an average Joe, we are always looking them up on different social media platforms.
We do this to learn more about who they are and what they do, what they like and what they dislike and discover something personal about them in the process.
I don’t do this myself but I do know that many people are doing it and that it even is socially acceptable.
You can use the 3 simple steps of social media and in online dating as well:
- Be nice and answer politely even if people are being rude to you.
- Don’t overuse hashtags, smileys or exclamation marks in the texts you publish.
- Be positive and be helpful, share your thoughts and ideas in a positive manner (e.g. I might not be the biggest fan of huge cars but I can’t say I am not liking to sit in one).
Many social media platforms today offer a wide range of privacy settings; use them wisely so that not everything you publish will be shared with everyone unless you intend to do so willingly.
These three simple rules will actually help you a lot not just on social media platforms but in online dating as well.
If you are using them, more people want to have a conversation with you, since people are finding positive people more likable than people who are negative.
It is in many ways how to show the best side of you but quite publicly. What you shouldn’t do is to write a single line saying “if you wish to know a bit more about me, please contact me at x“.
X is, of course, the social media platform of your choice. Give a little bit of information about yourself.
Dating Tips for Social Media and Online Dating
No matter who you are dating, chances are that he or she will be on social media as well as at least one online dating platform.
A platform can either be a dating website or a dating app.
It is very different than social media, right?
But…
Why should it be any different?
On social media you share your interests, right?
So why shouldn’t you put that in your online dating profile?
That is one of the things that will make your profile stand out from others.
If you want to show someone that you are a real person share your interests on the dating profile you prefer.
If it is a dating website, here are some tips for women and here are some for men.
If it is a dating app, then here are some tips for both men and women.
That is a modern way of dating now, isn’t it?
