Introduction

In this blog post, I will discuss dating in the digital age and how I define it.

Dating In The Digital Age Is More Than Online Dating

It has probably not been unnoticed by any living person today about the revolution

that has occurred during the last decade.

I am thinking of the digital revolution, which, of course, has brought some changes

to our lives that we wouldn’t even have imagined back then.

The first “wave” gave us dating websites.

Social media has changed our lives in ways we couldn’t imagine a couple of years ago.

Who would have thought that these sites could mean new possibilities besides the

traditional ways of dating and open up the entire World for us (or at least: most of it)

a decade ago? These were the second wave (also known as Web 2.0).

Dating in the digital age is in the third wave now

The transformation from the second to the third wave means that how singles date will change now. The introduction of apps on our smartphones and tablets is amazing, so that we now have the World at our fingertips at any time of day or night.

But has this made old-fashioned dating obsolete? That is something I discussed a while back.

What Does This Mean For Christian Singles Today?

It means that Christians can find their spouses on the other side of the World.

I won’t say that it wasn’t the case before, but today it is a lot easier to do so.

The problem with these apps is that they fixate on people’s looks.

A popular app first shows a picture of a single person nearby, and you can swipe left or right to indicate whether you like them. It’s shallow and a real problem.

Especially for Christians, since Jesus Christ tells us not to judge!

The Ugly Truth That These Apps Teach People

The truth is that these apps make people shallow, focusing on their looks rather than their behavior, attitudes, morals, and ethics (also known as the heart).

Of course, we are all humans, and even Christians do get shallow and quite judgmental now and then. I know that I have made some presumptions about people that were totally wrong.

When that happened and when it happens, I always thank God for teaching me this valuable lesson.

This is, unfortunately, a part of our sinful nature: we constantly judge each other.

Dating in the digital age hasn’t made us better humans; rather, it’s reinforced a behavior that’s been the same since the days of Adam and Eve.
