The two ways of communication I’m writing about in this post is, of course chatting either by using text or by using a camera and video chat. So let’s begin…
Dating Is Less About Text And More About “Pics And Vids”
Even though writing a text on your profile that is interesting and will attract a lot of people to read it and maybe contact you, when it comes to dating it is about pictures and videos more than just text.
Of course, you should begin to text chat at first but after maybe as little as 2-3 days after the initial contact, you should suggest a video chat between the two of you.
There is, however, no such thing as a general rule for this. It’s only when you think that communication is working out between you that you should suggest starting a video chat.
Text chatting can be tough, especially if you have dyslexia or another form of disability that makes it hard for you to use your fingers. If you have those problems, tell the person you’re dating that you prefer to talk with them face-to-face instead.
You don’t have to tell them about your problems if you don’t want to, it can be a bit sensitive and you don’t know how the person would react if you’ve just met them.
However, if you don’t have any trouble like that, you could use the text chat.
I personally have always used the text chat for initial contact but only after I have emailed a person first by using the internal email system of the dating site that we both were members on.
This is not a general rule but it’s good to write an email first and end it with a question at the end of it.
If you’re dating and using another language than your native tongue, you should only use words that you know and if you’re contacting a person living in another part of the world that you know isn’t a native English-speaker for instance, use simple words and avoid complicated words in the beginning.
After a while, you can use more advanced English and see if the person knows what it means. If he or she does not follow, explain to them so that there will be no misunderstandings.
I myself am not a native English-speaker but I had learned English since I was 10 years old and I have read a lot of English literature, watched some British, Australian and American films and series as well as talking a lot of English with people from all around the world and I don’t live in a native English-speaking country.
Some parts of my education have been completely in English too which has helped me a lot. This blog has also helped me. I am actually more comfortable speaking English than typing it but writing has never been a problem either.

Video Chat Is The Best Dating Practice
It’s not for only for people with disabilities that I would recommend video chat to. Everybody needs to add this to their online dating experience since there are a lot of benefits with it:
- Video chat confirms (hopefully) that it is a real person you’ve been chatting with
- You will see how the person looks like in real life and how he or she is responding to different questions, jokes, and topics that you bring up during the video chat. Remember that you are saying the most with your body and not with the words you are using, as I have written in a previous post.
- When you’re video chatting, it’s important to look your best. You can ignore to brush your teeth (although I highly recommend that you do) but not combing your hair.
There are of course many more things I could list here but they are the three main reasons why video chatting is the best dating practice.
