The two ways of communication I’m writing about in this post are, of course, chatting via text or video. So let’s begin…
Dating Is Less About Text And More About “Pics And Vids”
Even though writing a text on your profile that is interesting and will attract a lot of people to read it and maybe contact you, in dating, it is about pictures and videos more than just text.
Of course, you should begin to text chat at first, but after maybe as little as 2-3 days after the initial contact, you should suggest a video chat between the two of you.
There is, however, no general rule for this. It’s only when you think that communication is working out between you that you should suggest starting a video chat.
Text chatting can be tough, especially if you have dyslexia or another form of disability that makes it hard for you to use your fingers. If you have those problems, tell the person you’re dating that you’d prefer to talk face-to-face instead.
You don’t have to tell them about your problems if you don’t want to; it can be a bit sensitive, and you don’t know how the person would react if you’ve just met them.
However, if you don’t have any trouble like that, you could use the text chat.
I have always used text chat for initial contact, but only after I have emailed a person first through the dating site’s internal email system, which we both were members of.
This is not a general rule, but it’s good to write an email first and end it with a question.
If you’re dating and using a language other than your native tongue, you should only use words that you know, and if you’re contacting a person living in another part of the world, who you know isn’t a native English speaker, for instance, use simple words and avoid complicated words in the beginning.
After a while, you can use more advanced English and see if the person knows what it means. If he or she does not follow, explain it to them so there are no misunderstandings.
I myself am not a native English speaker, but I have learned English since I was 10 years old, and I have read a lot of English literature, watched some British, Australian, and American films and series, as well as talked a lot of English with people from all around the world, and I don’t live in a native English-speaking country.
Some parts of my education have been entirely in English, which has helped me a lot. This blog has also helped me. I am actually more comfortable speaking English than typing it, but writing has never been a problem either.

Video Chat Is The Best Dating Practice
I wouldn’t recommend video chat only to people with disabilities. Everybody needs to add this to their online dating experience since there are a lot of benefits to it:
- Video chat confirms (hopefully) that it is a real person you’ve been chatting with
- You will see what the person looks like in real life and how he or she responds to different questions, jokes, and topics that you bring up during the video chat. Remember that you are saying the most with your body and not with the words you are using, as I have written in a previous post.
- When you’re video chatting, it’s important to look your best. You can ignore brushing your teeth (although I highly recommend that you do), but not combing your hair.
There are, of course, many more things I could list here, but they are the three main reasons why video chatting is the best dating practice.
